Don’t be fooled. Sheep are only good for cheese and good milk.1 If all of us asked for being treated with the respect we deserve, bossy people, “maricaprichines” (women who love brands and everything related to celebrities), man-haters feminist superboss, misogynists, dictators and scare-employees wouldn’t exist or, at least, would be at risk of extinction. Don’t be a sheep and start to stand up to the boss of the moment. What should you do if you are dismissed? Why would you have to be dismissed? Couldn’t you be promoted? Do not stop doing something out of fear of being punished. Eleanor Roosevelt said “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent”. Likewise, I tell you that you are not dismissed; you are driven to your destiny. In times of crisis, people think they have a very justified excuse to behave meekly, like sheep that bleat, are quiet or give a paw when the boss appears on the stage. Fold-addicts always have an excuse. In my opinion, “Losers always have an excuse, winners always have a plan; otherwise, they make it up” The command staff love terrifying, scaring and becoming the bogeyman as a mean of persuasion. They do it because it works. What is needed is a change of mindset. The attitude is essential. Respect yes, servility no. Don't keep your mouth shut for fear of reprisals. Don't allow anybody to humiliate or to be rude with you in order not to lose a work o a salary increase.
Money pays a lot of things but never the prostitution of your dignity. Dismissal wouldn’t be so traumatic if we were confident of our abilities, were the best positive sponsor for ourselves (that is, if we constantly reminded ourselves our strengths) and find support in our abilities, talents and gifts. “You will always pull through. You are a very talented person. You know how to manage it” It should be the slogan to engrave on the crown, whether you are a woman or man. If our whole life had been guided by people who had believed in us and had seen our talents... all of us would be winners. To begin with, you can become your own boss. Do not allow yourself to work for anybody who you never hire, ¡never! Interview those who are interviewing you in order to avoid hire bosses that are useless or aren’t up to the task. Do not allow those who aren’t willing to respect the individual to lead you. Never give a person who may become jealous of your abilities, personality or talents the opportunity to hire you. Say no to bosses who believe that employees have no soul, that they are cold numbers on a piece of paper, sheep prepared to bleat and give a paw to applaud boss’ jokes and/or to conceal his or her incompetence. If you are driving to your destiny, just spread your wings and go along with the crowd. Remember, you promote what you permit.
Winners always have a plan. Being successful is about developing a work that best fits your set of values, respects it and ennoble you as human being. A conflict may be an opportunity for face up to your demons. How can you successfully go through these turbulent “crisis” periods which are causing mass redundancy at will? Attitude is essential: Take it as a drive towards your destiny. An open mind is the key: assume it as an opportunity. Consider the situation as an open field to sow everything you want.
However, the attitude and the mentality should be fed in a healthy way, so you should learn how to be your best sponsor, and it entails:
1- Making a list with your abilities, gifts, talents, skills and resources
2- Memorizing the list
3- Having trust in yourself
4- Thinking in a realistic way: others have passed hard times before you, fought against adversities and, however, came through it with flying colours. Humanity never has it easy.
5- Thinking in a positive and encouraging way: winners rise to the occasion when they faced with misfortunes
6- Others can, so do you
7- There is a bright spot called “opportunity” in an otherwise murky sea of troubles
8- As long as there is life, there is hope
9- Using your head to plan and make up solutions instead of harping on about annoying destructive ideas
10- Smiling. Practise smiling at life
11- Realising your set of value. Get a good account full of immaterial values as happiness, love, friendship, confidence, humour, enjoyment...
12- Practising naturalness
13- Expanding your circle of friends. My grandfather used to say that it’s a need to have friends everywhere because you never know who can help you in a tight spot. It is also worthwhile treating people well, it will come back to you in the future
14- Meditating on your vital mission: what is your work and mission? Do you love what you do? Could you do something better with your talents? If you were in a deserted island and money doesn’t exist, would you keep doing, working in the same?
Winners always have a “plan C” and; otherwise, they make it up.
